Care

Never dry-clean a painted rug, and hang it rather than walk on it. Wash the shirts inside out at 30 °C. Both rules have reasons.

Two different objects, two different rules. The short version: the shirt goes in the machine, the rug never does.

Rugs

The paint sits in the wool, not on top of it. Solvents lift it, pressure drives it out. So: never dry-clean, never steam, never a pressure washer. No professional cleaner should touch this piece, and any who agrees to has not understood what it is.

Vacuuming. With the pile, suction low, beater brush off. A rotating brush abrades paint the way it abrades nothing else in your house.

Spills. Blot, do not rub. Then cool water, a pH-neutral wool soap, a soft brush, by hand only. Work from the edge of the mark inwards so you do not spread it. Dry flat, away from radiators and out of direct sun — heat sets stains and sun fades the ground.

Where it lives. Hang it. A painted rug on a wall keeps its figure for decades; the same rug underfoot loses it to shoes within a year or two. We make them to be looked at, and the floor is not where you look. If it must go on the floor, put it somewhere nobody crosses in outdoor soles, and accept that the piece will age faster than you.

A wool care kit — brush, pH-neutral soap, cloth — is what we use ourselves, and it ships with any piece if you add it.

Wear

Wash inside out at 30 °C, on a gentle cycle, with colours like it. The print is on the outside; turning the shirt protects it from everything else in the drum.

Iron inside out. Never put a hot iron on the print itself — it will gloss and then it will lift.

No bleach, no fabric softener, no soaking. Softener coats the fibres and dulls the black.

Dry it on a line rather than in a machine. Two-thread cotton at 280 gsm will shrink a little the first time either way; hanging keeps it to a little.
